mikkel metal was the first artist on echocord, and the main reason why the label was started back then. after many many releases we are very happy and proud that he now returns with a full lenght album. more than 7 years after his last long-player album mikkel metal returns with a new album for echocord. bypassing dub-techno as the starting point, this is music clearly consistent with earlier output. we are presented with 10 tracks that all evolve with around a melancholic melodic framework. while there is clearly a nod to detroit and another to dub- techno, the overall impression is consistently and unmistakably the sound of mikkel metal. a hypnotic, very enjoyable and thorough return from the danish artist.

its always been tricky predicting what firecracker recordings will release next, though few would have expected an ep of freestyle, darkside drum machine jazz and percussive drone from berceuse heroique, nous and bedouin regular healing force project. sounding like early 23 skidoo replayed on drum machines and samplers, theres much to admire about the hectic rhythms, foreboding textures and dusty samples at the heart of gravitational lensing. its unclassifiable and completely out there, paranoid, dense and intense, with the fizzing drums, mangled horns and metallic percussion hits of random walks just edging out the experimental jungle-jazz madness of apophenia in the top tracks stakes.

two gold standard musical compositions i wont insult by labelling with a genre. *truth is the key* is one of my favourite tracks period, the arp solo just does it for me in every way. the vocal will be familiar as irene datcher also sang on the james mason lp (who also features on these tracks). *dreamflower* should need no introduction, famously sampled by erykah badus *didnt cha know* and many others. this is a sublime landscape is notable for ryo kawasakis dreamy guitar work, stone cold classic. both sides surprisingly have never graced the 7 inch format until now, absolutely essential 45.

rezzett are arguably one of the trilogy tapes goto acts. the london duo has previously released a trio of impressive, off-kilter eps of fuzzy house and techno jams for will bankheads much-loved imprint. happily, zik zak is every bit as essential as their previous material, expertly blurring the boundaries between techno, experimental electronics, and distorted hardcore. while the drowsy-but-sweaty hey hugo all sampled vocal yelps, sweeping chords and clattering percussion is probably the most obviously ear-catching of the four cuts, theres plenty to get excited about elsewhere. check, for example, the intricate electronics and eyes-closed loveliness of the title track, and the fluid melodiousness of opener afyon or, for that matter, the comforting bliss of ep closer noklue.

brendon moeller returns to third ear after some years, following up his lauded jazz junk safari trilogy of eps with 4 peak time bombs. all 4 tracks blow up the dance floor. brendon moeller known for his sound design, has taken his sonics to extremes on all four tracks, pushing, twisting and teasing frequencies to the limit. the bass on all tracks is phenomenal. it s just as well that a master engineer like pole has mastered these tracks, maxing out the sound yet protecting the sound systems that these bombs will be played on. super fun.

on november 13th, pnn records will release the debut album of its most enigmatic artist myr. diamondbacks make wonderful pets is more than just a strange name, it nine tracks represent an exciting evolution in myr.s trajectory as an artist. following his debut ep nobody knows avalon myr. seems to have dug deep and discovered another level to his sound. each of the tracks on the record are confidently offbeat and precisely composed.a little-bitty bowl (with b.hotton), mixes thunder sound-effects with glitchy synth bleeps, layering them above darker tones which build to a perfect storm in the middle. this 10 minute track fails to get boring and is representative of the album as a whole. myr.s ability to carry off strange hybrids is what makes his music unique. from the ghostly warbles of i think i hear them coming to the sunnier sounds of eleanor, myr.s disregard for the norm has lead to an exceptional record that surprises at every turn.
